Project description

The Institute for Innovative Materials, Processing and Numerical Technologies (IMPACT) is a state-of-the-art research centre specialising in materials, processing and numerical technologies.

This Centre of Excellence forms part of Swansea University’s College of Engineering and delivers a high impact, transformative research environment for academia-industry partnerships and collaborative, fundamental research.

The aim of IMPACT is to future proof the global advanced engineering and materials industry through collaborations that enhance research capacity and increase competitiveness.

Delivery model

IMPACT offers access to world-class expertise driven by intensive collaboration between industry and academia – enabling a high impact, transformative research environment and making it a unique colocation facility for academia-industry partnerships.

A key objective is to help businesses and industry find innovative solutions. Through our areas of expertise, we can offer insight into the latest research developments coupled with our state-of-the-art laboratories, workshop and specialised equipment.

IMPACT’s academia-industry collaborations will provide companies with unique access to:

  • State-of-the-art research and co-location facilities within a new purpose-built research institute
  • World-class academic experts from the College of Engineering
  • Highly qualified researchers from across the University applying a multi-disciplinary approach

Geographical coverage

The project will benefit Bridgend within the Cardiff Capital Region as well as Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire.
