Materials and Manufacturing Academy (M2A)

Project description

The Materials and Manufacturing Academy (M2A) is a Swansea University initiative which provides industry led postgraduate research training in the areas of advanced materials and manufacturing. Fully funded by WEFO, EPSRC and industry, M2A is able to offer 24 EngD places and 8 MSc research places per year. The project aims to upskill 165 individuals in the field of Materials and Manufacturing enabling them to become the next technological leaders in industry and to support Welsh industry in its quest to become a technology driven world leaders.

The M2A offers industry the opportunity to collaborate on research projects, offering an accessible and affordable method for engaging in university research. EngD projects cost £9k pa and MSc projects cost £4,195.

The M2A provides fully funded doctoral and masters research positions. This will cover tuition fees, project costs and a bursary to cover living expenses set at £20k pa for EngD positions and £12.5k pa for MSc positions.

 

Geographical coverage

The project operates across the West Wales and the Valleys Wales programme area.

Essential eligibility criteria

There are no geographic restrictions on industry sponsoring research projects.

Researcher applicants must live within the West Wales and the Valleys region at the point of enrolment.

Specific targets

The M2A will train at least 165 individuals to masters or doctorate level in an engineering discipline.
