Traineeships is a non-employed status training programme for 16-18 year olds not otherwise engaged in post-16 education or employment. The primary objective of the programme is to equip young people with the skills, qualifications and experience to enable them to progress to learning at a higher level or to employment; including an Apprenticeship. The programme forms part of the current suite of Welsh Government interventions to improve the engagement, employability and progression of young people.
Traineeships have three different levels to make sure that young people get the support and backing they need to progress: ‘Engagement’, ‘Level 1’ and ‘Level 2 – Bridge to Employment’.
Traineeships give young people aged 16-18 the skills they need to get their first job or progress to further training. They’re very flexible, but mainly include; work preparation training, English and Maths – for those who need it and high quality work experience.
The project works across all local authorities in Wales both in Communities First and outside Communities first areas.
A Traineeship is for young people aged 16-17(although if you are aged 18 and have left school or college you could also apply), resident in Wales, who are not in engaged in Education, Employment or Training. Additional eligibility criteria applies to each level; ‘Engagement’, ‘Level 1’ and ‘Level 2 – Bridge to Employment’.
