This operation implemented major improvements over five key stations in the West Wales and the Valleys area – Pontypridd, Ystrad Mynach, Aberystwyth, Port Talbot, and Rhyl. The operation resulted in more attractive, safer, accessible stations, with better connectivity with other transport modes, leading to increased patronage of the railway, for commuting and other journeys.
The operation was managed by the Public Transport Division with the Economy Science and Transport Department of the Welsh Government through contract with Network Rail who themselves will procure contractors to undertake construction of the improvements.
The project will benefit Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf within the South East Wales region and Neath Port Talbot, Denbighshire and Ceredigion more widely.
