Project description

SMARTCymru forms part of an integrated ERDF funded suite of programmes to provide support to Welsh businesses and research organisations to commercialise new products, processes and services developed through research, development and innovation processes.

The main aim of SMARTCymru is to co-invest in business Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) for sustainable growth.

SMARTCymru offers financial support to Welsh businesses to help them develop, implement and commercialise new products, processes and services.

The programme will co-invest in projects to help create, and build on, the capacity and capability of Welsh businesses to innovate.

Delivery model

SMARTCymru is delivered by a team with experience of RD&I gained in industry.

Innovation Specialists from SMART Innovation are key to the delivery of the operation, as they work closely with businesses during the scoping phase, through to making an application.

Our Appraisal Team have a wide range of experience and expertise that allows them to determine the support that can be made available.

Monitoring and Post Completion teams ensure that the progress, and impacts of projects are captured.

Geographical coverage

The project will benefit all local authority areas in Wales.

Essential eligibility criteria

Companies must be based in Wales.

Projects will be assessed against selection criteria to measure the suitability of the project in terms of technological innovation and value for money for the taxpayer. Funding will be offered at the discretion of the Welsh Government.

The support is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
